“It surprised me a lot!”

“I am So Ny, 61 years old, a widow living in Tek Vill Village in Ampil Commune. My family has 5 members. I am living with my married son with my two grandchildren.  I am a farmer; besides farming, I make small traditional cakes and sell them for additional family income.

“Before joining the training course on Financial Literacy, I did not have any idea how to manage money properly. I never saved my money. My family faced difficult situations all the time and we lived from hand to mouth day by day. When I had any extra money, I played the lottery; I could not save money.

“One day, there was a chance for me to be selected to attend the training course on Financial Literacy which was conducted by the community trainers with support from the KPY organization. Through the training course, I learned new things, especially how to have a simple plan for tracking and recording family income, and expenses and how to save in the family.

“After attending the training, I began practicing my new skills by taking notes, tracking and recording weekly my income, expenses, and savings. I have practiced it regularly now, and I could see that my unnecessary expenses were reduced and as a result, I could save money every month. It surprised me a lot because I could save my money now!

“I recorded all my saved money in my saving plan month-by-month. After one year, my savings increased and I could use my savings money as capital to expand my business.  With my improved business, my income has increased, and my savings continues to grow.  And I continue practicing my skills and knowledge to manage my income, expenses and saving. As a result, I was able to save enough money to improve my home and even purchase a motorcycle for my family!

“I always share my experience and knowledge that I learned from KPY with my neighbors. Some of them learn how to do it and are also practicing it like me. But some don’t care about it. I am thankful to KPY for selecting me to attend the Financial Literacy training course with my community trainer. This training gave me very good skills and knowledge on how to manage my family income. I would never be able to improve my family's living conditions without attending this training course!”
