“I started to save for my university studies”

SET Rithy, age 12 years, is a unique child in his family. He studies in grade 6 at Botomsorya Primary School.  He is a good student who always comes to school early and tries to study to get a good result. He is a member of his school’s Child Council, and his name is on the honor list every month, but he has a problem. He always spends all his pocket money that he got from his parents on school days.

Rithy participated in the child-based training course on Financial Literacy provided to his Child Council and conducted by his teachers who were trained by KPY. Child Council members then share what they have learned to their schoolmates. After he attended the training course,  he recognized that his habits of spending money needed to change. He now knows how to track what he spends every day, and he knows how to keep some amount to save. He said, “I love the Financial Literacy training, especially above saving. Now I have started to save for my university studies when I finish grade 12”.

Rithy also told us, “This training from KPY encouraged me to make a plan for saving by reminding me about the golden rule and how to spend less than income, so that I can still afford to save some every day, every week, and every month. And since I am one of the council members, I also help encourage my classmates to follow my example. I am happy to be a good example to them because we are all friends.”
